(More customer reviews)First off, I need to qualify this review by admitting that I am not a professional detailer, but rather a guy who cares about his cars, and has made auto detailing a hobby. I bought this after seeing it recommended on several auto detailing forums. I got the item in less than a week after ordering using standard shipping (was not eligible for Amazon Prime). Has to be diluted at a 4:1 water to product ratio - which will make this gallon go a long way.
I have used numerous preparations over the years, sometimes with hard lessons learned. It goes without saying that this must be used on cool wheels - in other words, don't roll up in the driveway, hop out of the car, and go to it. I used the product for the first time this weekend first on my 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 then on my wife's 2009 Lexus IS 350. The Benz has the 18' AMG wheels w/ the 6 double spokes that are generally not too difficult to clean (much easier than the E39 M5 I just sold). Also, in the little time that I've had this car, it seems to not throw much brake dust at all - maybe this has something to do with the brake pad material MB uses vs. what BMW uses, I don't know - my point is that it wasn't really a big test for this cleaner to do the Benz. Anyway, the cleaner performed very nicely with a spray on, leave for 45 sec, then rinse off technique. After this step, the wheels required very little soap/water/boar's hair brush/rag cleaning.
The Lexus, however was a totally different story - this little car is a brake dust monster, and the 18" 5 "v-spoke" wheels have a bunch of nooks and crannies that make it a difficult wheel to clean. I used the same spray on/wait/rinse off technique as I did on my MB, and the results were surprisingly good. Still some residue, but the cleaner did most of the work. More importantly, however, the finish of both wheels (clearcoat alloy) remained intact. I thought it actually worked better than Griot's Garage wheel cleaner, which before I got this, I was pretty satisfied with. This is more economical, and in my estimation, worked better (and I am definitely a fan of Griot's products). After cleaning and drying the wheels on both cars, I gave them a coat of Swissvax Autobahn so that next time the Meg's wheel brightener should perform even better.
Long story short - this stuff is definitely worth a try, and for now will be a part of my regular cleaning routine. BTW, I didn't rate it a 5-star, because I haven't tried enough products to compare it to so I am not sure that it would really be a five-star.
