I read about this filter on a few of the chevy HHR owners groups. There were NO negative reviews and more than a handful of positive ones.
Most frequent comment was how this improved pickup and gas mileage.
The other option was a filter/plenum unit for over $200 which allegedly did the same thing.
Another option was buying a turbocharged HHR. Since I already owned a 2LT model (higher horsepower than the 1LT which, militarily, is backwards), which seemed a little like burning the candle of a 4-cylinder engine at both ends the turbo model I could have waited for seemed more like burning the candle at both ends AND the middle. With the same engine block and components, squeezing another 50 horsepower out of that engine doesn't seem to make good engineering sense. Something is going to give.
So I bought this filter, and am happy with it. It give the engine the boost it needs to accelerate in and pass traffic and I HAVE noticed a preliminary 1 mpg improvement which is likely to increase as I'm doing more highway driving now.
I think it will pay for itself both in gas mileage AND in replacement costs for the stock filter. I hate throwing things like that away - the stock filter is HUGE and very expensive - prior experiences with K&R filters on many motorcycles have proven themselves to me and you should buy one too.
